The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger Quite possibly I'm missing the point of the book, but whether I like a book or not depends a lot on whether I like the main characters and, in this case, I couldn't stand the kid: I found him irritating and whinny. I do wonder if this book would be regarded the same way had the main character been a woman.
